The presented university textbook “Statics of Structures - Solution Manual“ is designed primarily for the first year students of the bachelor’s degree study at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Slovák University of Technology in Bratislava. The textbook consists of two parts. The first section of the subject course is covered by Part I: Theoretical Mechanics, which is followed by Part II: Internal Forces.
In the textbook students will find exactly what is stated in the subtitle, i.e. instructions for solutions of examples designed for the particular solution. Its main aim is to answer the question HOW? not to focus on answering the question WHY?. In order to answer to the second question, the recipient will have to search for the source literature dealing with the relevant theory (see the references), or to participate at the course presentations.
Concerning type related examples, the first one is commented in detail, the additional examples commentary is gradually reduced.
Some readers, however, might have the feeling that the description of the solutions is excessively detailed and the commentary is repeatedly filled with well known facts. We could only recapitulate and point out the fact that the presented textbook is primarily aimed for the first year students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering as a guideline for the elaboration of an individual asignment. The textbook is meant as an example for the form and the content of compilement.
This publication consists of 37 solved examples arranged in the way in which they will be placed and explained at the seminars. They cover the first half of the term, which is dedicated to theoretical mechanics. Degree of numerical difficulty of examples have been intentionally selected so that the difficulty of the calculation will not influence compilement transparency and fluent reading. Simple calculation and transparent proceeding enable to perceive the presented publication as a text and to study the commented examples even without calculator.
